ESCAPE FROM URBANIZATION
Posted by admin
Something about the Big Island gets in my blood every time I am there... it's like I can feel the bottoms of my feet getting thicker and my skin getting tanned and salty just on the short flight over alone. Must be some sort of natural reflex getting me ready for the raw lava landscape, endless ocean and the vog filtered rays of the sun. We returned this time to once again celebrate Kristen's birthday as she has come to very much appreciate the rural laziness that is South Kona. As we shared cocktails poolside looking back at our many years together she calmly reminded me that this would be the last year in which I would have a wife in her twenties... lucky me.
I think Mark Twain put it best when he described this part of Hawaii and I quote -"the sleepiest, quietest, Sundayest looking place you can imagine... Ye weary ones that are sick of the labor and care and bewildering turmoil of the great world, go to Kona! A week there ought to cure the saddest of you all." Indeed.
