TIMELESS HAWAII

Something undeniably royal about watching a sunrise in Omoka'a. It is as if you are experiencing it rather than simply watching it happen... well at least that's how it is for me. The sunsets are nothing less than magical either. The lagoons and surrounding areas seem to be fixed in a timeless state, so when our escort Paul Kema Sr. posed the question "what is old to you?" to JC the youngest in our traveling party it had everyone thinking deeply. Apparently not JC though, because he quickly replied "um.. 20 years"... expected answer for a 17 year old I guess. For the rest of us we knew that 20 years was nothing compared to nearly 200 years that the Kema ohana has been deeply rooted in this area. Since I have been down here only a hand full of times it was very exciting to have so many of the elders on hand to share their memories of growing up on the private grounds. History never dies. Please don't be confused it wasn't all heavy talk of the old days during this quick outer island getaway. We all did our part in consuming what was most likely an unhealthy amount of adult beverages, as well as a superabundant variety of foods. My personal favorite being the Chicken adobo made by Auntie Charlotte... was oh so onolicious!!... but the fresh fried menpachi was a real close second! There were a couple other families camping at the time which made for a very festive environment and words will fail to describe the vibes being shared by all during the sunset kanikapila session. I would just like to thank all in attendance but extra special mahalos to Mr. Paul Kema Sr., Auntie Charlotte, Uncle Sam, Uncle Manny, Uncle David, Paul Kema Jr., Matt Kema, JC II, JC III, and all the spirits that watched over us while we slept. Aloha - RM
