OLD SOLE, NEW TRICKS: XXXVIII

OSNT38

Aloha all,
First off, please excuse my absence last week as I was quite sick and didn't get the chance to compose a weekly post for all of you... I'm sure all of you sneaker lovers are aware that today marks the 27th Anniversary of the Air Max line, specifically the birth date of the Nike Air Max 1. Because of this, I thought I'd begin this OSNT with a few photos of my personal favorite Air Max 1's to ever surface. Following this list you'll find the beginning of a new OSNT three-part video, interview series: "Hooping and Sneakers," where I'll be reviewing a few basketball-specific sneakers with a group of my hoop savvy buddies. Enjoy!

OLD SOLE, NEW TRICKS: XX

OSNT20

Aloha all,

Today features another special interview of a good friend who now resides somewhere in the Great West. Some of you may recognize him as a big part of the once great, but short-lived, Niketown Waikiki (R.I.P.) dominion... The way I see it, there's really only two types of people in this world: (1) people who are friends with Wells P, and (2) people who recognize Wells P! Haha joking! ...but seriously. lol! If you don't happen to make it through my boring commentary on the new releases, please be sure to take interest in the OSNT Interview below!
On another note, students, how's everyones midterms going?! Semester is halfway done; keep pushing!
PS - 10.26.13. Yeezy taught me.

the-good-will-out-x-new-balance-577-autobahn-pack-2
I dig. Both colorways have a little twing... I especially like the mis-colored heels on the dark pair... Go: The Good will Out

Limited to 504 pairs, individually numbered on each 'lift ticket’ hangtag. Will release on BAIT store’s one year anniversary, October 19th.

Asics "Christmas Pack"

Ooohh... Them khaki's look nice...

Bodega x Reebok Classic Leather "U.S.B.D.G.A."
bodega-reebok-classic-leather-usbdga-2
Cool concept but the yellow toe box is a tad bit much for me... Too bad it probably won't come with the dynamite box. Visit: Bodega Store

Nike Kobe 8 "What the Kobe"
nike kobe 8 what the kobe 2013
what-the-kobe-nike-kobe-8-02-900x597
It's obvious that Nike doesn't have plans to stop the "What the" Program... Although Kobe's aren't my thing, I think these are nice compared to other "What the" models... I'm sure these will create quite the buzz as every "What the" has in the past...

Nike Air Foamposite One - Silver - Volt
nike-air-foamposite-one-silver-volt-1
It's been a while since a Foamposite been on here... Nike still trying to push the print I see. At least this time it's a bit more cooled down with a tonal look.

Nike Air Jordan I Retro High OG "Bred"

...Patiently waiting. 12/28!

Really feeling the use of jacquard here... Very clean, yet just enough flare to excite the eyes.

Nike WMNS Air Max 1 "Liquid Gold"

Gold all in my... shoes?! Bougie, Classy, Ratchy all in one! haha

Nike Flyknit Lunar One V2

I'm digging how they added more of a two-toned look... Can't wait to see the upcoming color ways. I still think they could've exercised the first model a lot more, but oh well...

OLD SOLE, NEW TRICKS INTERVIEW: Wells P | Ex-Niketown Waikiki Employee, Boss, 'That Guy'
WP x MJ

Name:
Wellington Phillips III
Nickname / AKA:
Wells P
Shoe size:
9
My hustle:
Marketing.
How many years I've been in an affair with sneakers:
20 Years. Since 1993.
How many pairs I own:
Last count... 625 (620 Nike)

photo (2)

My Holy Grail and why:
With so many choices it's hard to narrow down to 1! Ok I have 2. First would be : Nike Dunk Hi- Sole Collector Finals. Only released in Vegas for the finals, I have # 38 out of 300. One of the first shoes to use multi-panel 3m to tell a story. Second would def be a pair of Melo PE Jordan 11 Lows. 1 of 2 pairs made.
My most despised footwear and why:
I absolutely despise of those toe shoes. And also CROCS. D E S P I S E... They look like they harbor germs. Uggs. Self Explanatory.
Currently hunting for:
Nike Air Max 1 ATMOS. Been looking for those for YEARS. Anyone with a size 8.5-9 holla at me!

photo_1

If I had to choose ONE pair to wear for the rest of my life, it would be:
Tie. Nike Air Miler and Nike Air Max 95 in Neon. If I could only take 1.... AM95
Amazing sneaker-related story:
Got 2. One was walking into the Portland Factory Store to grab keys to a friends apt, And being there as they got these Jordan 1's that kinda fell out of the sky.. happened to be the Banned 1's. Picked up 3 pairs and bounced. 2nd Story is having Michael Jordan himself compliment me on my OG Jordan 12s. White and Red. We then had a short convo about sneakers and his fave pair (White Cement 3's).

photo

Changes or surprises I'm hoping for in the sneaker world:
Bots becoming obsolete. Give everyone a fair shot. I've been blessed to not go through the issues people go thru on a weekly basis, but I hear about it all. I also thought about a program where people can buy memberships at stores that guarantees 50% of the public reserved shoe and size. Raffle style. Like a yearly membership for say $500 that reserves your spot. 20% of each membership would then be donated to homeless shelters to provide shoes for those less fortunate. Give Back. The sneaker game has made people so much money off of a cheap product.
A tip for my favorite footwear brand:
Keep things fresh. Don't ever get comfy and put out crap that allows your competitor to capitalize on your shortcomings.

photo (1)

Additional comments, shout-outs, big ups:
At the end of the day IT'S JUST SHOES! Don't negate your Family, Friends, RENT, CAR NOTE, CELL BILL, and most importantly your JOB for sneakers. If you miss out it wasn't meant to be and your life will be the same. I've heard too many stories of people putting off rent for the new Jordans.. Disgusting.
S/O my OG Niketown Honolulu Ohana. We had something special there that will NEVER be duplicated. Can't close down the memories and history made there. It's like 95 of yall so I can't shout everyone out! haha.
S/O to you Parkz! We go back to Hawaiian Lit class way back Keep doing what your doing. Big Ups to my FITTED, KICKS/HI, In4Mation, The Firm , Noteworthy familia! Hawaii is in GREAT hands.
Contact:
Both Instagram and Twitter: @Wells_P
A question for Parkz:
Wells P: If you could have access to a Jet weekly, where would you fly to cop sneakers?
Parkz: Wow, tough question! I haven't actually given this much thought in the past, but I'd probably have to answer this with a lot of elasticity... If I'm looking for new sneakers, I'd probably say: (1) Vegas, if I'm in the States. Vegas not only has a beautiful Niketown, a House of Hoops, and other sneaker shops such as Champs (shouts to my buddy S1da), Finishline, etc., but it's also home to just enough premium accounts to hold me down... Not to mention, there are good outlet stores such as Cole Haan for steal deals on more formal stuff. Shouts to CRSVR where some of the more recognizably popular sneakers can be found (i.e. Yeezys and Jordans), and also Feature where I was recently able to pick up a few premium Asics. Being that Vegas is a transient town, there's hardly long, exhausting lines for sneaker releases, which also results in a few things sitting on the shelves for a little. (2) Japan, if I'm outta country. Japan gets everything, plus more! I mean, would you expect anything less from a city (Tokyo) which manages to linger around the forefront of fashion..?! Not to mention, being that I'm a size 9, there's usually a plethora of stock in my size. If you're in Harajuku, Tokyo, there's a ridiculous amount of small, hole-in-the-wall stores that are filled with hidden treasure. Tokyo is one of those very few places in the world where you can set out on a sneaker hunting for a specific shoe and end up coming home with 10 satisfying pairs that you never expected to see in your life. Add the factor that sometimes the Japanese locals have different taste than Americans (which makes certain sneakers really easy to find) and you have yourself the perfect place to sneaker hunt! Only drawbacks: Gotta keep an eye on that currency exchange rate and be sure to know how to spot fakes! (3) Paris, to experience something new. I've never been there but I could imagine it'd be quite reckless to my wallet...
As for hunting old gems, I can't quite name a specific place I'd fly to... I'd like to say that I find really good older stuff in Tokyo as well, but I wouldn't be able to compare it to other possible places I haven't been to yet... Bottom line, if I had access to a Jet weekly, I'd definitely not limit myself to one place... This question was fun! Thanks Brother Wells!

OLD SOLE, NEW TRICKS: X

OSNT7

Aloha all!
Well here marks the 10th OSNT blog post thus far... I hope all of you are enjoying reading this as much as I enjoy putting it together. Although I've only posted a handful of interviews, it's very refreshing to learn about people who share a common passion. I know it's not the greatest or most technical sneaker read around, but it's fun sharing my thoughts and friends with all of you. With that being said, I'm always happy to hear any comments, suggestions, or criticism! jared@fittedhawaii.com
Enjoy OSNT:X! Peace.

Nike SB: Brian Anderson
nike-sb-project-ba-official-3
New SB model for Nike team rider Brian Anderson... With this SB model and P Rod's newer SB models looking a bit more on the "runners" side of style, could this be a solidification that the "skater look" is evolving? One thing we can count on is that the Lunarlon sole equals comfort as well as a hefty price tag...

OLD SOLE, NEW TRICKS INTERVIEW: Brian Kajiyama | "Not your typical sneakerhead... Considering my kicks don't touch the ground much"
530228_10100312484725096_1588796949_n

Name:
Brian Kajiyama
Nickname / AKA:
B, Brian, "hey you!"
Shoe size:
9
My hustle:
Lecturer at the University of Hawaii's College of Education's Department of Special Education
How many years I've been in an affair with sneakers:
Since intermediate school, I really wanted British Knights, since they had my initials, "BK" on the shoe! My parents weren't happy paying about $60 for shoes.
How many pairs I own:
Too many, it's becoming problematic! Really!
Amazing sneaker-related story:
I was determined to get the DMP when it first dropped, so I called Footlocker and asked about security and how early I could get there. I also asked about the safety of others because if the crowd rushed, I was determined to rush, too! Running people over, I NEEDED the XIs and VIs! The XIs are my favorite sneakers. Something about it just captures me and I loved watching Jordan play in his sneakers. I missed out on the Concord XIs when they first dropped, so this was my "second chance." I arrived around 3:30am, my mom has to be the best mom a son could have, and I brought my younger sister along so she could help carry the box IF I got them. There was a fairly large crowd at 3:30am, keep in mind this is pre-hyperbeast days. But everyone was really nice and Erick Reichard was one of the first to tell the crowd to make space so I could head to the front of the line. As I sat there until the store opened, I couldn't believe I was about to get Concords! The Footlocker workers all knew me and they said, "Hey, I'm glad you're getting this!" I got them and my sister was nice enough to take them home on TheBus, and I headed up to the University of Hawaii to get to class. I made sure I was NOT missing any classes! My plan is to wear one of the pairs for MY wedding and the other pair will be rocked for another special occasion. I rock what I cop and this pack are the ONLY shoes I haven't busted out, yet.
Holy Grail and why:
KD IV Weathermans because I'm a big fan of Kevin Durant. He's a great player but remains very humble and just is classy. He took time to visit Moore, OK after the devastating tornadoes and donated a million of his own money to the rescue efforts and got Nike to match that contribution. Weathermans are green, and I love green... probably because I love the Hawaii Warriors! But the design on that shoe is so detailed; I'm disappointed I slept on that release! Now, I highly doubt I'll own a pair, as the prices are through the roof!
Most despised footwear and why:
I don't really despise any footwear. I love how diverse the shoe game can be and I'm a big fan of rocking what YOU like! Not everyone will love your footwear and that's totally fine!
If I had to pick one pair for the rest of my life, it would be:
Stealth Foamposites because they're super durable and aren't too flashy. I still can wear them to work or speaking engagements and not have people just staring at my feet the whole time.
Currently hunting for:
A girlfriend! In terms of sneakers, I would love to come across an affordable pair of LBJ 8 South Beaches!
Changes or surprises I'm hoping for in the sneaker world:
I would LOVE to see the sneaker world evolve into being ONE united community, where there is no hating or trying to one up the next person. I also hope the days of resellers come to an end. We, as a sneaker community, need to remember we are truly blessed to be able to purchase shoes! Some can't even afford slippers to go to school! We just need to have more "aloha" in the sneaker world!

ZeusBrian

Additional comments, shout-outs, big ups:
Shoutout to Jared a.k.a. JJ Parkz for doing all he does for the sneaker scene in Hawaii, props to my global shoe community - $neaker F!ends United, props to Hawaii Sneakerheads and Mayor Ron, Mykee, Tyler, big ups to my homies Spenser, Chris, Kaelen and everyone else who has helped me enjoy being a small part of the sneaker scene in Hawaii. My story is unique, in that I would be the last person you'd think would be into sneakers, being that I use a motorized chair, but I'm blessed to meet some amazing individuals through a common passion that just happens to be sneakers. Sneakers will fall apart, but the friendships forged will remain forever! Here's a short glimpse into who I am: http://yellowmetal.tv/june/kajiyama.html

Aloha all!
As usual, a lot of good releases keep smothering us all... If you've missed out on the original online release, don't forget that Nike plans on restocking Air Jordan Doernbecher III's sometime in the near future! For those of you who think the same problem with bots will happen again, sorry to say but this release will be unannounced. Hopefully this will allow everyone a fair chance at these bad boys! For those of you in Hawaii, I hope you've been keeping your kicks away from our new friend, Flossie... Cheers!

OLD SOLE, NEW TRICKS INTERVIEW: Mark J Rod | Sneaker Photographer

Name:
Mark J Rod
Nickname / AKA:

Shoe size:

Occupation:

255_365 05-30-13 What The POW WOW HAWAII
Kobe 8 Mambacurial 04

How many years I've been in an affair with sneakers:
Since 1997; I was 12 years old and had an instant love with the OG Release Air Jordan Playoff 12... The first Air Jordan my Pops bought me... Just that feeling of rocking the same shoe as your childhood hero while he dominated... I also had Pennys, Grant Hills, Iversons and Kamikazes growing up. I followed the Kicks section in the back pages of Slam Magazine religiously during my childhood, but I didn't get deep into serious buying/collecting until the Nike Zoom Kobe IV in 2009. I've been a lifelong Laker/Kobe fan, but that shoe made me take notice of the Kobe line, even though I had Adidas Kobes and Nike Zoom Kobe I... The successor, Zoom Kobe V completely made me an addict... I bought 43 pairs of those, lol...
How many pairs I own:
About 230 pairs, 174 pairs of Kobes... I'm a Kobe addict... haha

220_365 04-25-13 Nike Zoom Kobe IV (Black-Red)

Amazing sneaker-related story:
I've gotten too many over the years, but I'll say social networking in general; from the old school forums to Facebook... As Steve Jobs would say, "It just works!"
I met a lot of good friends locally and on the mainland because of it. The more good people you know, the easier it is to collect and buy sneakers. Just remember the unwritten rule: don't expect hookups if you can't return the favor, even if it's a good friend or acquaintance... Take care of your connects...
Holy Grail and why:
My holy grail is simple... My 2 favorite basketball players: Michael Jordan & Kobe Bryant... So naturally, I'll pick my favorite shoes from each player, the Air Jordan XII Playoffs, the Nike Zoom Kobe IV MLK, and the Nike Zoom Kobe V Bruce Lees...

263_365 06-07-13 - One and Only Jordan (Retired Jordanhead)
235_365 05-10-13 Nike Zoom Kobe IV (MLK)
Nike Zoom Kobe V Bruce Lee 02

Most despised footwear and why:
I don't despise any type of shoe at all... I love those who rock General Releases, underrated Kicks or other brands. I believe in individuality. Each person's personality is different, so why should your feet be any different? Don't rock shoes because of what's popular. What I do despise though, that is hype! If you copping to rock, no problem... Just don't buy sneakers with the intention of making money. This is an expensive hobby and we have real jobs for that...
Currently hunting for:
Older Kobes... I was a young, financially challenged Service Member during the Nike Huarache 2K4, 2K5 to the Zoom Kobe 1, II & III, so I wasn't able to buy much... It doesn't help that I was deployed twice during that period. Also, looking for OG and 2004 Air Jordan XII Playoffs...
Changes or surprises I'm hoping for in the sneaker world:
Too many, but I'll just say first of all, The Hawaii sneaker culture is too divided in my humble opinion... You've got too many crews and groups and we pretty much do our own thing... It's okay to have pride in your crew, but we are all Ohana here... Together, we can do much more... Let us keep putting Hawaii on the map! And on a boarder note, I would love to take it back to how it use to be, but it's a challenge to even think about it... The Sneaker culture is too mainstream now. Another thing, more people should buy what they like. I see too many followers these days...
Additional comments, shout-outs, big ups:
Shout out to my HSSBU Elite fam, HawaiiDreamTeam Crew, HSS, My OG Niketalk/ISS Forum Heads & SGHI... Don't want to say individual names, as I have met and communicated with too many real, great sneakerheads in the 808 and I would hate to have to leave anyone out...

Nike Zoom Kobe VII (Invisibility Cloaks)

A question for Parkz: What do you think us heads in Hawaii can do to make the local sneaker community even stronger?
I'm not quite sure I'm the right person to be answering this question, but I'll try my best... In my opinion, it's quite simple; pretty much acting upon everything you've just stated. The thing is, having everyone come together and help each other while buying only what each individual likes and not for the Sole purpose of making money is a lot to ask for... Unfortunately, I don't think this will ever truly happen. There will always be a bad side to things because thats just the way the world stays in rotation. Instead of fighting this new generation of sneaker madness, I like to perceive it in a positive way as much as my mind allows me to. "The Game" is like a story book; without a climax or some sort of conflict, the story gets boring... This is why it's called "The Game." Instead of shunning upon how others treat this sneaker craze, life, or whatever that individuals perspective may be, just accept it and simply have fun with it. Enjoy the struggle of weaving through hype and negative individuals you may cross paths with along the way, and you will build a lifelong treasure chest of stories and satisfaction with every sneaker you add to your collection. On a more specific note, the "Heads" out here locally have very much surprised me thus far. Whether we realize it or not because we're in the thick of things, Hawaii has been able to naturally build a ridiculously huge sneaker community that hosts individuals (like yourself, Mark) who genuinely care about what happens to fellow collectors out here. The reason I've recently started posting these interviews is so I can share the stories and views of genuine people like yourself. My answer is nothing new to you; just keep appreciating like-minded friends and the community will grow stronger...

POST SEASON...

Posted by admin in Kobe, Lebron, MVP

Hopefully after the Western & Eastern Conference Finals the NBA Finals will be a Kobe vs. Lebron one. And me being the Laker hater that I am, I want Lebron and the Cavs to win it all...actually, they are going to win it all. Mark my words!
