As a designer I never imagined how my personal process would translate through variants of creative mediums. So when Maile Meyers asked me a year ago “Hui, what you doing next April? I kindly replied, I have no idea what I’m doing next month!” “Perfect, you will co-curate CONTACT 2018 with Michael Rooks of the High Museum in Atlanta." I am pleased and humbled she chose me for this experience, I’ve learned a tremendous amount of ‘ike throughout this process.Big Mahalo to Michael Rooks for his kind patience and mentoring while I learn the curve. Mahalo for Maile for pushing me to try new things. Mahalo to Josh Tengan for his execution and hard work. Mahalo to the team of coordinators and installers! Most of all mahalo mahalo mahalo to all the participants who submitted works! I am excited to see Hawai‘i grow as a creative community—not only for us but to share with the world the many talents these shores produce!- Ola CONTACT ZONE, the fifth installment of CONTACT, an annual exhibition of contemporary art made in Hawai‘i, is on view from April 6 to 21 at the Honolulu Museum of Art School.
